Episode 10: We’re Not Gonna She Bop

This week Sammerz and Vince look at two song’s from the infamous PRMC “Filthy Fifteen”: Cyndi Lauper’s hit “She Bop” and Twister Sister’s “We’re Not Gonna Take It”.

The show starts with discussion about Cyndi Lauper’s “She Bop”. Hey, do y’all know what this song is really about? It ain’t dancing! We talk about that and the gay porn magazine that inspired it, Cyndi’s nude recording, and the dystopian music video that looks awfully familiar. (Just look out the window!)

The YouTube comment section is an interesting mix of people from all walks of life. Some of them want to go back to the 80s while others just remember it. There are also shots at Drake, inappropriate dads, and Cyndi Lauper’s mom swinger question mark.

“We’re Not Gonna Take It” was also listed on the Filthy Fifteen, but Dee Snider was all like “hey, I’m not going to take that” and stood up to the U.S. government. We discuss his testimony and the song’s repeated use by politicians.

The YTC are really on one with this song as the Gen Xers are really trying to hold onto something, dads are embarrassing their kids at Target, and a fight for the Little Mermaid is on the horizon. Plus, Vince reads the longest comment in show history from a really cool and smart Gen Xer.

This is one podcast episode that you’re gonna want to take.
