It’s time to kick off the summer and what better way to do that than listening to Vintown and Sammerz talk about some “California Girls.”
We kick the episode off by going back to 1965 and talking about the original “California Girls” by the Beach Boys. We talk about the song’s acid-fueled writing, Brian Wilson’s shitty dad, the song’s influence on Paul McCartney, and it’s ranking among the greatest songs of all time.
The comment section is filled with insightful comments and insights like “California girls not hot anymore” and “woke people no like girls no more”.
We follow that song up with the greatest of all California Girl songs, “California Gurls” by Katy Perry! We have some great quotes from Katy on how she came to write the song and how she ended up choosing Snoop Dogg for a guest spot. Plus, racist radio stations!?
The YTC on this one exists just to make us feel old. There’s also a bunch of people complaining that the lyrics/music video may have been PG-13. Heaven forbid!
A fun episode and return to form from a couple of big ol’ KatyCats.
