Episode 6: Spice – “Say You’ll Be There” & “2 Become 1”

There has never been a girl group quite like the Spice Girls and there has never been an episode of this podcast quite like this one. Vince and Sammerz dive into two of the biggest hits from the Spice Girl’s 1996 debut album, Spice: “Say You’ll Be There” and “2 Become 1”.

We start off with the super catchy “Say You’ll Be There”, the Spice Girls ode to being there for someone. The song had a memorable music video that won awards across the world and it also had some very normal YouTube comments, including comparisons to Sailor Moon, the X-Men, and the Power Rangers. Plus, an important update on what the file size of this mp3 was in comparison to a .wav file! Fascinating stuff, really.

“2 Become 1” is our second song and hold on a second here… did you know this song is about wearing condoms? Find out more about that when you “put it on”. (This podcast is “it” in this scenario. “On” refers to you downloading and playing it. That’s what we in the business call a pun, y’all.) We also comb through the YTC where the romantic vibes have never been stronger.

Another fun episode about a band everyone loves. Put it on!

Episode 5: Pretty Woman – “King of Wishful Thinking” & “It Must Have Been Love”

In this modern update on Cinderella, Vince and Sammerz discuss two of the best songs from the 1990 Pretty Woman soundtrack: “King of Wishful Thinking” and “It Must Have Been Love”.

We go over the history of these two songs, including Wendy & Lisa’s failure to Go West, the “hilarious” Jimmy Fallon, and Roxette’s unhappiness with their placement in the movie.

We then head into the comment section where a lot of men are being dumped, Corona makes life sad, and the 90s were better than now.

A fun episode about the best multi-platinum selling soundtrack from a movie about a sex worker with a heart of gold ever made.

Apologies as we had a few audio issues while recording so the podcast is a bit quieter and doesn’t sound as good as other episodes. This will be fixed in the future.

Episode 4: Spring Break – “What’s Luv” & “Can’t Get You Out of My Head”

This week we take a trip back to a simpler time when nothing bad ever happened and everyone was united in peace and love thanks to the music of the day. The 1960s? You wish, boomer. We’re talking about Spring Break 2002!

Carson Daly wasn’t available so Vince and Sammerz are sitting in to take you through two of the absolute best songs of all time: “What’s Luv?” by Fat Joe ft. Ashanti and “Can’t Get You Out of My Head” by Kylie Minogue.

We learn some interesting facts about the top song from Juwanna Mann and Kylie Minogue’s hit single that nearly went to two other artists before her. We then delve into the comments where Fat Joe’s pant size, the shitters of today, and a world before TikTok and Fortnite is discussed.

A fun episode about some great songs so please download, like, and subscribe.

Episode 3: March 22nd, 1992 – “Save the Best for Last” & “To Be with You”

It is March of 1992. The number one movie is Basic Instinct, the number one TV show is Roseanne, and the top two songs on the Billboard Hot 100 are about wanting to get out of the friend zone. It is truly a horny time in America, y’all.

Sammerz and Vintown are back to talk about the two hottest songs from thirty years ago today as Vanessa Williams made her comeback from her Miss America scandal with “Save the Best for Last” while Mr. Big hung around the top-five with their campfire favorite, “To Be With You”.

This week’s comments are a doozy as the 40-year-olds are really in their feelings about these two songs and there are parasocial relationships with the artists galore.

If that sounds fun to you then come on, baby. Come on over, let us be the one to show you.

Episode 2: Madonna – “Like A Virgin” & “Papa Don’t Preach”

Vintown and Sammerz are back with another couple songs for the podcast we do where we talk about songs and the YouTube comments people leave on them. That’s the podcast you are downloading and reading the description of right now. It’s called Music Was Better.

This time we travel back to 1987 and the first concert Vince ever attended: Madonna’s Who’s That Girl Tour live from Alpine Valley in East Troy, Wisconsin. It was a memorable event that he has no memory of, but let’s just say he’s been closer to Madonna than you have ever been in your whole life. (Unless your name is Sean Penn, Warren Beatty, Guy Ritchie, Dennis Rodman, or you’re the kid from the Open Your Heart video.)

Vince has some fond memories of Madonna, Sam has definitely heard of Madonna, and the YouTube commenters… Well, you’re just going to need to listen and find out.
